To provide policy direction and appropriate strategies with regard to:

Gender and education

  • Ensure a gender responsive teaching and learning environment in the University
  • Implementation and Affirmative Action in admission of boys and girls from urban slums, ASALS and marginalized areas.

Gender and Governance

  • Foster Gender competence among both women and men in all areas of governance and management.
  • Increase women’s participation in governance.

Marginalized and Vulnerable Groups.

  • Ensure that learners from marginalized and vulnerable groups are attached to the existing mentoring/counseling programmes in Kenyatta University.
  • Provide appropriate techniques for resource mobilization for learners affected by abject poverty and other forms of discrimination.

Gender and work environment.

  • Put deterrent measures on sexual harassment.
  • Institute mechanisms to monitor and evaluate gender responsiveness in the environment.

Gender- Based Violence

  • Build and sustain networks on the elimination of Gender-Based Violence.
  • Design and implement programmes for elimination of other forms of Human rights abuse, besides gender-based violence.

Gender and Research.

  • Encourage gender responsive research to generate knowledge that will Guide addressing gender issues in development.
  • Enhance the skills of female and male members of staff in writing a Gender responsive proposal for funding.

Gender and HIV/AIDS

  • The centre collaborates with AIDs Control Unit to enhance modalities for mitigation of the negative impact of HIV/AIDS especially for females at the institutional level and to empower women and men, boys and girls to make responsible sexual decisions.
