- Kenyatta University’s Centre for Gender Equity and Empowerment in partnership with the University of Warwick, UK again won a research grant for a project entitled, “Prevention of violence against women and girls with a particular focus on higher and further education institutions as safe spaces for women”. The project begun January 2025 and ends on the 31st March 2025. The amount of the grant awarded is £24,930 (twenty-four thousand nine hundred and thirty sterling pounds) with Kenyatta University as the Sub-Grantee. This project’s objective is to progressively accelerate, reinforce and maintain safe spaces and eliminate all forms of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) through the implementation of digital SGBV reporting platforms at Kenyatta University and up scaling the same to neighbouring universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETs).
- Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) Project- Kenyatta University received a grant from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to establish Women’s Economic Empowerment (KU-WEE) Hub. The KU-WEE Hub Project aims to ensure that interested parties such as relevant ministries and departments, county governments, policy leaders (legislators and policy makers) implementing agencies and donors utilize policy evidence to shape policies, programmes, interventions, and advocacy efforts related to supporting women’s economic empowerment (WEE) in Kenya. This project was officially announced and established at Kenyatta University by the Vice Chancellor on Friday, 9th October, 2020 and is currently housed at the Centre for Gender Equity and Empowerment.
- Women Educational Researchers of Kenya (WERK) - The Centre for Gender Equity and Empowerment (CGEE) at Kenyatta University in collaboration with Women Educational Researchers of Kenya (WERK) researched on Safe Work Spaces for Women at Kenyatta University and produced the prototype to help in reporting and draw attention to the urgent need to eliminate sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) especially against women staff, students and other vulnerable groups on our campuses. The prototype is in form of a mobile application available on Android Devices from Google Play via the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ke.ac.ku.sgbv. The App anonymously, efficiently and securely report SGBV cases to the CGEE, who analyses data and provide reports on submitted cases for further investigation. Its main features are: - Reporting - via the App or via SMS Short code; Get Help: Gives information on General Safety of members of KU; Hotlines: Provides contact information where one can get help and News: To inform users of any news from the Centre. The App was launched on 28th August 2020.
